Shaded walking paths, a quiet lake surrounded by old trees, wooden bridges and wide green meadows — Józef Piłsudski Municipal Park is the green heart of Skawina and one of the town's favorite places to relax.

Located just a few minutes from the historic Market Square, the park has welcomed residents and visitors since 1927. Today it combines historic architecture, protected nature and modern recreational spaces, making it an ideal destination for a peaceful walk, a family afternoon or a short escape from nearby Kraków.

A Park Full of Character

Unlike many urban parks, this one feels like several different landscapes connected together. Tree-lined avenues lead through the historic section filled with mature trees, while a wooden bridge takes visitors towards the picturesque oxbow lake, created where the Skawinka River once flowed. The peaceful waters attract ducks and swans, while the surrounding woodland creates one of the quietest corners of the park.

One of the oldest residents of the park is a magnificent oak tree, officially protected as a natural monument. Around it grow nearly 60 species of trees, giving the park a different atmosphere with every season.

From Historic Villas to Open Meadows

One of the park's most recognizable landmarks is the elegant Sokół Palace, built in 1906. Originally the headquarters of the local Gymnastic Society "Sokół", today it serves as a cultural venue hosting exhibitions, concerts and community events. Nearby stands a monument to King Casimir III the Great, the founder of Skawina, reminding visitors of the town's medieval origins.

Crossing the wooden bridge leads to a completely different setting. The landscape opens into the Skawina Błonia — a large recreational area with walking and cycling paths, outdoor fitness equipment, playgrounds and open lawns perfect for relaxing or enjoying a picnic. Throughout the year, this part of the park becomes a gathering place for local festivals, outdoor concerts and the annual Skawina Days celebration.

More Than Just a City Park

What makes the park special is how naturally it blends history with everyday life. Families gather around the playgrounds, joggers follow the looping paths, cyclists pass through on their way to the Błonia, while others simply sit beneath the old trees watching life unfold around the lake.
